I don't think anyone is thinking 50 years ahead :) He could have done a basket or gone for bigger like ExxonMobil with better margins history, less debt, etc. I can only speculate that he got involved because he decided to do an oil play and liked Vicki.
Yes he likes Vicki but wouldn’t do an oil play if he doesn’t see something in it. The 50 years is a metaphor (as in long term). And shale has more operational leverage and stands to gain more as the product becomes more scarce. And we are still decades behind on oil demand falling due to renewables.
I think Warren is thinking 50 years ahead when oil will gradually become a scarce commodity and the industry will have a massive tailwind.
